What's new
GeoLawWatch has been rebuilt from scratch. The data and our summaries are the same, but everything around them is new:
- A state map on the home page shows where this season's bills stand in every legislature, and which legislatures are sitting.
- Still in play lists every live bill, with how far through its session the legislature is and how long is left.
- Latest moves is a running record of every action on a tracked bill.
- One place for every bill. The old "By year", "By state" and "All bills" pages are now a single searchable bill list.
- A Passed page lists every bill that has passed.
- A session calendar shows when each legislature sits, with crossover deadlines.
- Faster and lighter. Pages are pre-built each morning, so they load instantly and work on any connection.
Old links still work: they redirect to the new pages.
How it works
Every morning at 06:30 UTC, GeoLawWatch pulls the previous day's legislative activity for all 50 states, DC and Congress from LegiScan. New bills are matched against the list of search phrases below. A person then reviews every match and discards any that aren't about weather, climate intervention or atmospheric release.
For each relevant bill we write a plain-English summary and a short soundbite, track its history and note when it takes effect. We use AI to help draft summaries. A person checks every one before it is published.

What the statuses mean
- Introduced
- The bill has been formally filed in the House or Senate. Prefiled means it was filed before the session began.
- Engrossed
- It has passed its first chamber, with any amendments written in.
- Enrolled
- It has passed both chambers in the same form and goes to the governor.
- Passed
- It has become law, whether signed, allowed to take effect without a signature, or adopted in the case of a resolution.
- Vetoed
- The governor rejected it. The legislature may still override the veto.
- Died
- It failed a vote, missed a deadline such as crossover or a funnel date, or died in committee. We show the specific reason where we know it.
- Carried over
- The session is in recess and the bill can resume next year.
- Session ended
- The session closed without a final recorded outcome for the bill.

Bill data is supplied by LegiScan LLC under CC BY 4.0. Summaries, soundbites and notes are written by GeoLawWatch. Always check the state legislature's own website before relying on a bill's text or status. Each bill page links to it.
